Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information In the Mood collects, why we use it, and the choices available to you.
Last updated: September 2, 2026
1. Who operates this website
In the Mood is operated by Brain Dance Designs LLC (“Brain Dance Designs,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy applies to the In the Mood website and community event-directory service.
2. Information we collect
- Location preferences: the ZIP code, search radius, and related city, state, coordinates, and time-zone information used to show nearby events.
- Event suggestions: your name and email address, event and schedule details, dance styles, venue information, prices, links, the date and version of your Terms acceptance, and other information you choose to submit.
- Corrections and communications: proposed corrections, explanations, your name and email address, and messages you send to us.
- Administrative account information: administrator email, role, authentication and session information, and administrative activity needed to operate the directory.
- Technical and usage information: browser and device information, page and feature usage, approximate location derived from network information, request metadata, bot and abuse signals, performance data, errors, and security logs.
3. Public event information
Approved event details are published in the public directory. Do not submit private or sensitive information as part of an event listing. A submitter's name and email address are used for review and follow-up and are not displayed as part of the public event listing unless that information is also intentionally included in the event details.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- Find and display events near the location and radius you select.
- Receive, review, verify, publish, update, and moderate event suggestions and corrections.
- Contact submitters when clarification is needed and send administrative notifications.
- Authenticate administrators and protect the website from fraud, spam, abuse, and security threats.
- Operate, troubleshoot, measure, maintain, and improve the website.
- Comply with law and protect our rights, users, and services.
5. Cookies and local browser storage
Choose a ZIP code or place name and search radius to find dances in your preferred area. Place-name searches are sent to Geoapify to find matching locations and converted to a ZIP code for the search center. We do not use your IP address to choose an area or request your device’s precise location.
We use only the cookies and browser technologies needed to provide site features, authenticate administrators, understand basic site usage, and protect the service. We do not use advertising cookies or cookies for targeted advertising.
| Technology | Type | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
itm_admin_access and itm_admin_id | Strictly necessary cookies | Authenticate administrators and authorize protected features. | Until the authentication tokens expire, typically about one hour. |
itm_admin_refresh | Strictly necessary cookie | Keeps an administrator signed in and securely renews a session. | Up to 30 days, or until sign-out. |
itm-location | Functional cookie | Remembers the ZIP code and search radius you choose for event searches. | Up to one year after you save or change your location. |
| Vercel Web Analytics | Cookie-free analytics | Provides anonymized, aggregate information about site usage and performance. | Does not place analytics cookies. |
| Vercel BotID | Strictly necessary security technology | Uses browser, device, network, and request signals to detect bots and prevent abuse. | For the security check and as otherwise required to prevent abuse. |
The administrative cookies are secure HTTP-only cookies and are not available to ordinary site scripts. You can clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Doing so resets saved location preferences and signs out an administrator. Because the technologies above are necessary, functional, or cookie-free—and are not used for advertising—we do not currently display a cookie-consent banner. If we add nonessential analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies, we will update this policy and provide consent controls where required.
6. Service providers and disclosure
We use service providers to operate In the Mood, including:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, databases, authentication through Cognito, logging, and email delivery through SES.
- Vercel: website hosting, performance analytics, and bot protection.
- Geoapify and OpenStreetMap data: address search and validation. Address search terms are sent to Geoapify to return suggested locations.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our terms, prevent harm, investigate abuse, or protect rights and security. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
7. Data retention
We retain event submissions, corrections, communications, administrative records, and technical records for as long as reasonably needed to operate and secure the directory, review the history of a listing, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. Published event information may remain available until it is removed or no longer needed. Retention periods vary by the type and purpose of the information.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. However, no website, transmission method, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
9. Your choices and privacy rights
You may change or clear your saved location through the website and browser controls. You may also contact us to ask about, correct, or request deletion of personal information associated with a submission or communication. Depending on where you live and subject to applicable exceptions, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information and to appeal a decision about a privacy request. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
10. Children's privacy
In the Mood is a general-audience event directory and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information so we can review and address it.
11. Third-party links
Event listings may link to websites operated by organizers, venues, ticketing providers, or others. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the service or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above.
